Himgrip ET

HIM

Solventfree, lightweight, pourable wearing course
based on coaltar eposyresins

Uses

Himgrip ET is used for making a flexible waterproof and lightweight anti-skid wearing. The system may be applied to prepared concerte.steel or wooden substrates Himgrip ET resin is dressed with selected hard wearing aggregates. Applications include bridgedecks.RO/RO linkspans, parking areas, garages, ramps, walkways and cycle paths. The system is also applied as a waterproof membrane, e, g under an asphalt layer on bridges and fly-overs.

Advantages

  • Lightweight-important in design considerations
  • Hardwearing
  • Flexible: excellent flexural and tensile strengths
  • Non-slip, even when wet
  • Chemical resistant
  • Waterproof –provides a lightweight, chemically corrosion resistant and water impermeable wearing course

Product description

Himgrip ET is a solvent –free three-component product based on epoxyresin and special coaltar with mineral fillers.

Colour

Himgrip ET is black, but the final colour the system will depend on the aggregate used as the surface dressing.

System

1 coat of HIM Primer 31 (for concrete substrates only). The surface structure of the concrete might require a second coat of primer.
1 or 2 coats of Himgrip ET , wet-in-wet, dressed with excess aggregate.
Preferably no primer is used on steel substrates.
No primer Is used on wooden substrates .

Temperature limitations

Himgrip ET shall not be applied at temperatures below 5°C, nor at a substrate temperature which is lower than the dew point temperature plus 3°C, the maximum application temperature is 35 °C.

Surface preparation

It is essential to thoroughly prepare the surface in order to achieve a sound. Clean and dry substrate.
Concrete: the concrete shall be clean dry and free of laitance. Mechanical cleaning or abrasive blasting is recommended. The prepared concrete will be primed before the himgrip ET is applied wet-in-wet.
Steel: for optimum adhesion the Himgrip ET is applied without need of a primer. The steel shall be prepared by abrasive blast cleaning to a minimum of Sa 2 1/2 an angular amplitude of at least 100 micrometre is required. The himgrip ET shall be applied immediately after blasting the steel.
Timber: the surface shall be clean, dry and uncontaminated. Hardwoods may require abrasion in order to obtain a good mechanical key. Himgrip ET applied without the need of a primer.
Aluminium/ surface should be either chemically or mechanically prepared to obtain a surface profile and mechanical key. Himgrip ET must be applied immediately to the dry uncontaminated surface.

Limitations

New concrete floors should be at least 28 days old and give hygrometer reading not exceeding 5% (protimeter).
With non-self-supporting concrete floors transfer of moisture from the soil might occur, resulting in adhesion failures of the flooring system. In order to judge the suitability of a substrate beforehand: apply the rubber mat test.

Primer

Only on concrete a primer should be used. Apply HIM primer 31 on the prepared substrate. Mix both components of the primer till a homogeneous mixture is obtained. The primer should be applied immediately with a roller or brush in a-thin continuous film. Care should be taken to avoid over-application or puddles. If the existing surface is very porous a second coat is necessary.

Pot life at 20°C

The material should be used within 30 minutes from mixing.

Curing time at 20°C

Foot traffic after minimum 12 hours, full traffic load after minimum 16 hours, fully cured after 7 days.

Tool cleaning

Himgrip ET should be removed from tools and equipment with HIM solvent 102 immediately after use.

Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.

Shelf life

Him grip ET has a shelf life of 12 months if kept in a dry, cool store in the original. Unopened packs.

Mixing

proper mixing of the Himgrip ET components is essential. Add the hardener to the base component and mix well.
Add the filler slowly and continuously whilst still mixing for 3-5 minutes until a homogeneous mix is obtained. Do not add solvent!! It is important that all components are intermixed thoroughly with a forced-action mixer or an approved spiral paddle in a slow speed heavy-duty drill so that no traces of the components remain unmixed.

Material consumption (theoretically)

1.6 kg/m2 thickness
For light traffic a layer of 3.0- 3.5 mm is advised and for heavy traffic 4.0-4.5mm

Application

Immediately after mixing the Himgrip ET shall be poured on the prepared surface and spread evenly with a steel trowel or squeegee. Care must be taken to ensure that where the material is applied against existing himgrip ET, there is total contact at the correct thickness.
It is essential that a wet film thickness gauge is used, to ensure an even thickness is achieved. If the Himgrip ET is applied in 2 coats, the first coat should be lightly sanded, to optimise the adhesion of the second coat.

Aggregate

The selected aggregate dressing must be applied immediately after the application of the slurry. The slurry has to be dressed until obliterated and no slurry is visible. The dressing is applied by methods that will ensure that is falls vertically down onto the slurry. If hand-thrown, there will be ridges created, that cannot be remedied later. The excess aggregate has to be removed after curing. If dry, clean and uncontaminated; this excess aggregate may be re-used in further application of the systems.

Joints

Expansion joints need to be continued in the Himgrip ET

Safety precautions

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use only in well ventilated areas. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Do not breath vapour.
Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection. If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the container or label-do not induce vomiting.
After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
Keep away from sources of ignition-no smoking.
